Thomas Herzog has been the ballet conductor at the Theater Basel since 2014, and has already conducted many premieres and worked closely with choreographers like Stephan Thoss, Johan Inger, Stijn Celis, Alejandro Cerrudo and Richard Wherlock.

Projects in recent years have included debuts at the Saarland State Theater, the Hungarian Radio Orchestra in Budapest and the Philharmonisches Orchester Augsburg, as well as invitations to the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the symphony orchestras in Szeged, Miskolc, Szombathely and to the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Thomas Herzog has been a regular guest at the Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen for over 10 years. Since 2018 he has been a regular guest at Müpa Budapest with the Zuglói Filharmonia. Last year he made his debuts with the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Hungarian National Ballet and at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg.

In November 2020 Thomas Herzog is going to make his debut at the Semperoper Dresden with the ballet production Peer Gynt by Johan Inger.

Thomas Herzog has been the ballet conductor at the Theater Basel since 2014, and has already conducted many premieres and worked closely with choreographers like Stephan Thoss, Johan Inger, Stijn Celis, Alejandro Cerrudo and Richard Wherlock. He has recently been able to expand his repertoire through special opera conducting, such as the Hungarian premiere of Goundo's Faust in the new, uncut critical edition of Bärenreiter 2015 and the Swiss premiere of Bellini's Bianca e Fernando with the St. Moritz Opera in 2016. His discography includes a Zarzuela album released by Genuin in 2006 and the first recording of the Singspiel Millistrade (2015) by Marius Felix Lange with the Basel Symphony Orchestra.

Thomas Herzog was born in Basel in 1972. The Swiss conductor, composer and drummer with Hungarian roots studied in Basel and Zurich. In 1997 he won first prize at the Concours de jeunes compositeurs of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Early in his career, Spanish music became one of his specialties. In 2008 he was the musical director of the Zarzuela evening ¡Pasión! (musical director: Calixto Bieito). He also conducted orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Ulm and Baden-Baden, the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Biel Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the Philharmonic Orchestras in Pécs, Györ, Cluj, Tirgu Mures, Skopje, Lviv, at the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, at the Cairo Opera House and in Bahía Blanca, Asunción, Guayaquil and Quito. He has worked for many years with both the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the Basel Festival Orchestra. From 2002 to 2018 he conducted the traditional Basel New Year's Concert 17 times in a row.
