Thomas Herzog has been a ballet conductor at Theater Basel since 2014, where he has worked closely with choreographers such as Stephan Thoss, Johan Inger, Stijn Celis, Pontus Lidberg, Jeroen Verbruggen and Richard Wherlock and has already conducted in over a dozen productions. As a ballet conductor, he has been a regular guest at the Semperoper Dresden and the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest since 2019. More recently, Thomas Herzog has made his debuts with the Spanish Radio Orchestra RTVE in Madrid, the Opéra National du Rhin, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn and the Budapest Philharmonic. For over 15 years, he has been a regular guest conductor with the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra in Reutlingen, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo, and the symphony orchestras in Miskolc, Szeged and Szombathely in Hungary.

He has been re-invited to the Hungarian Radio Orchestra Budapest, the German State Philharmonic Orchestra Rheinland-Pfalz, the Rheinischen Philharmonie Koblenz, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Zug Sinfonietta, the Cluj State Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Asunción, the Cairo Opera House, the Zuglói Filharmónia Budapest and the Philharmonic Orchestras in Györ and Pécs. He has also appeared as a guest conductor at the Saarland State Theatre, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Augsburg Philharmonic, the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra of Pforzheim, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Ulm, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the Symphony Orchestra of Biel, the National Orchestra of Ecuador, the Orquesta Sinfonica Provincial de Bahía Blanca, or the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra in Skopje.

His ballet repertoire includes classics such as Swan Lake, Nutcracker or Giselle as well as contemporary dance evenings. As an opera conductor, he conducted the Swiss premiere of Bellini's Bianca e Fernando at Opera St. Moritz in 2016 and, the year before, the Hungarian premiere of Gounod's Faust in the then newly published unabridged critical edition by Bärenreiter. As early as 2008, he was the musical director of Calixto Bieito's zarzuela evening ¡Pasión! at the Theater Basel. In the concert field, he devotes himself with preference to Spanish and French composers as well as new music and, in particular, to educational projects. His discography includes a Zarzuela album (Genuin, 2006) and the premiere recording of Marius Felix Lange's Singspiel Millistrade (SOB/Sony, 2015). In 1997 he won 1st prize as a composer at the "Concours de jeunes compositeurs" of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Thomas Herzog has realised numerous projects with both the Basel Symphony Orchestra and the Basel Chamber Orchestra since 2010. For 17 years, he conducted the traditional Basel New Year's Eve Concert with the Basel Festival Orchestra.
