Gabriel Venzago has been 1st Kapellmeister at the Landestheater Salzburg since the 2019-2020 season.

Born in Heidelberg, the conductor studied at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. During his studies, he already worked as a répétiteur and musical assistant at the Osterfestspiele in Baden-Baden, received a scholarship from the Deutsche Bank Foundation “Akademie Musiktheater heute” and directed the first opera performances at the Wilhelma Theater in Stuttgart. In 2015 in Augsburg and 2017 in Munich he was the conductor of the opera Zaide. Eine Flucht by W. A. ​​Mozart, which received a large media response because of its integrative work with refugees.

Gabriel Venzago has already worked as a guest conductor with the Darmstadt State Orchestra, the Jenaer Philharmonie, the Leipziger Symphonieorchester and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen. Moreover, he has been sponsored by the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council since 2017 (“Maestros of Tomorrow”).

In the current 2020/21 season, Gabriel Venzago is directing the widely heralded musical theatre production Mysterien: Ein Salzburger Grosses Welttheater staged by Theatre Director Carl Philip von Maldeghem and Ballet Director Reginaldo Oliveira at the Salzburger Landestheater. Gabriel Venzago will also take over the musical direction of the opera Cinderella from the celebrated British composer and child prodigy Alma Deutscher and Paul Abrahams Blume von Hawaii directed by Marco Dott.

Furthermore, Gabriel Venzago is going to be on the road with the Jenaer Philharmonie in Thuringia, where he will conduct the New Year's concerts in Jena, Arnstadt and Weißenfels. Also, he will conduct the Havel Festival of the Brandenburg Theater and the children's concert of the Georgisches Kammerorchester in Ingolstadt, where he will work with the well-known KiKa host Malte Arkona.

In summer 2020 Gabriel Venzago assisted Joana Mallwitz in the musical direction of Mozart's opera Così fan tutte at the Salzburger Festspiele.

In the 2017/18 season, Gabriel Venzago began as a répétiteur, conductor and assistant to the general music director Florian Ziemen at the Theater für Niedersachsen Hildesheim, but then moved to the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin as Kapellmeister in January 2018. Here he was responsible for the new productions Neues vom Tage by P. Hindemith and Im Weißen Rössl by R. Benatzky. He also conducted symphonic concerts and took over various post-conducting of all ongoing productions.

In the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, Gabriel Venzago was Assistant Conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra and conducted concerts for children and young people as well as New Year's concerts. In the opera field, he directed a world premiere at the Hamburg State Opera in 2016 and and worked as a musical assistant and accompanist under Marcus Bosch at the Schlossfestspiele Heidenheim during the summer of 2016 and 2017.
